Psychedelic Furs "New York East Coast Broadcast 1982" Vinyl, 2-LP Set, Unofficial Release, Stereo (2024 Parachute Recording Company pressing)
New York: East Coast Broadcast 1982 captures the Psychedelic Furs in a charged live performance recorded at the Ritz in New York City on December 2, 1982, during the tour for Forever Now. Drawn from an FM broadcast and issued without official authorization, the collection documents the band at a pivotal point, as its stark post-punk roots were expanding into a more melodic, atmospheric sound. Richard Butler’s distinctive vocals lead a forceful set that moves through then-new material—including “Love My Way,” “President Gas,” “Run and Run,” and “Forever Now”—alongside earlier favorites such as “Pretty in Pink,” “Sister Europe,” “Dumb Waiters,” “Imitation of Christ,” and “India.” The broadcast source gives the recording a direct, period-authentic character rather than the polish of an official live album, but the performance is energetic and the 16-song program offers a strong snapshot of the group’s early catalog. Released on CD in 2022 and later as a double-vinyl edition, New York: East Coast Broadcast 1982 is best suited to collectors and listeners seeking a vivid archival document of the Psychedelic Furs in their early-1980s prime.
