Nine Inch Nails "The Downward Spiral" 180 Gram Vinyl, 2-LP Set, Album, Reissue, 2016 Remastered edition, Stereo, Gatefold (2017 Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records pressing)
The Downward Spiral is the second studio album by Nine Inch Nails, released on March 8, 1994. Led by Trent Reznor, the record became one of the defining industrial rock albums of the 1990s, combining abrasive electronics, distorted guitars, unsettling ambience, and tightly controlled pop hooks into a bleak concept album about collapse, alienation, and self-destruction.
The album was written and recorded largely during a period of intense creative pressure for Reznor, following the breakthrough of Pretty Hate Machine and the harsher direction of the Broken EP. Much of the recording took place at Le Pig, a studio Reznor set up in a rented Los Angeles house, with additional work at major studios including Record Plant and A&M. Produced by Reznor and Flood, and mixed with significant contributions from Alan Moulder, the album emphasizes texture, contrast, and atmosphere as much as aggression.
