AC/DC "High Voltage" 180 Gram Vinyl, LP, Album, Reissue, Remastered, Stereo (2003 Legacy/Epic Records pressing)
Originally released internationally in 1976, High Voltage introduced AC/DC’s hard-driving Australian rock sound to a worldwide audience. Drawing largely from the band’s first two Australian albums, the record captures the early lineup at its most direct: Bon Scott’s swaggering vocals, Angus Young’s sharp lead guitar, Malcolm Young’s disciplined rhythm work, Mark Evans’s bass, and Phil Rudd’s steady, no-frills drumming.
The album’s appeal rests on its economy and attitude. “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ’n’ Roll)” opens with an instantly recognizable riff and an unusual bagpipe break, while “T.N.T.,” “Live Wire,” and the title track establish the chant-ready hooks, blues-based guitar lines, and relentless backbeat that became AC/DC trademarks. Slower cuts such as “The Jack” and “Little Lover” reveal the group’s roots in barroom blues without sacrificing its raw edge.
